Life Is a Dream That I’m Awake for

It’s interesting to see what’s going on with current events. So much of humanity is experiencing the same thing at the same time. Movements are restricted. Life certainly isn’t how it was. It’s like we have a prison sentence, but we don’t know how long it’s for.

Reminds me of various experiences I’ve lived through. I didn’t know how long they would last. I might not have had the strength to get through them if I had known how long they would go on for. All I could do was keep on. Day by day.

Eventually, the prison door opened, and I walked through it.

And so will humanity with what we’re going through now. Yes, the numbers will keep increasing. For now. There will be more confirmed cases and more deaths. There will also be more recoveries. We will get through this. Humanity has been through worse.

Remember the black plague?

That was sure a doozy.

Remember the wars and the genocides?

Those left their mark, but we survived.

There are approximately 7.8 billion humans on this planet, and there will still be approximately that many of us by the time this current situation has concluded.

Of course, there is real suffering going on, all over the world. I’m not trying to make light of that.

We of the human race are survivors. Life is a dream that we’re awake for, and we’re able to determine the outcome of our collective dream. We are that powerful. Remember that as you read the lyrics below.

“Life Is a Dream” lyrics / poem by James Barnett

Thrown in prison
For seemingly no reason
Waiting for my sentencing
And to find out what my crime or crimes were
Where are my accusers
Why are they so silent
I could be here for a while
But I better not get comfy
I look around the confines of my cell
Don’t know if this will end well
Could this be a nightmare
Am I somehow sleeping
If so, it’s time to wake up
Or get doing lucid dreaming

Life is a dream that I’m awake for
There’s so much more beyond these walls
My capacity is so much greater
Not even the world can hold me down
My spirit is released and set free
I can fly and teleport all over
There is instant manifesting
My wish is the universe’s command
My life opens up
My dream expands
To such glorious heights
I soar so high
I am immortally invincible
I can be whatever I want to be
The greatest gift is to be me
That is one I gladly accept

Been in this cell for quite some time
Still not knowing the reason or the rhyme
No end in sight
Such is my plight
What is my worth
I feel like dirt
Sadly getting used to these constraints
This melancholy, this crushing weight
These walls are closing in on me
Is it so bad to want to be free
Somehow get beyond the monotony
And embrace empowering philosophy
What more could there be
Each day doesn’t have to be the same
Rinse and repeat, same old refrain
I cry out for variety
Oh, God, have you forgotten me

Life is a dream that I’m awake for
There’s so much more beyond these walls
My capacity is so much greater
Not even the world can hold me down
My spirit is released and set free
I can fly and teleport all over
There is instant manifesting
My wish is the universe’s command
My life opens up
My dream expands
To such glorious heights
I soar so high
I am immortally invincible
I can be whatever I want to be
The greatest gift is to be me
That is one I gladly accept

Shock of all shocks
Wonder of all wonders
What’s this I see
Do my eyes deceive me
No, it looks to be real
Someone’s broken the seal
All the doors are open
And the guards are all asleep
One of my guardian angels
Leads me through
And gets me back outside again
I’m out in open air once more
Seems like some kind of miracle

That cell was my home
And now I’m gone from there
Got time off for good behaviour
Kept silent for so long
Now I’m tap dancing on the sidewalk
Skipping merrily along to my own tune
Smiling from ear to ear
I’m embracing my new found freedom
And relishing the thought of it
My gentle steps now lead me on
Who knows what lies next for me
March on into the future

Life is a dream that I’m awake for
There’s so much more beyond these walls
My capacity is so much greater
Not even the world can hold me down
My spirit is released and set free
I can fly and teleport all over
There is instant manifesting
My wish is the universe’s command
My life opens up
My dream expands
To such glorious heights
I soar so high
I am immortally invincible
I can be whatever I want to be
The greatest gift is to be me
That is one I gladly accept

The greatest gift I’ve got
Is my authentic self
That was forged in those prison walls
What looked like a curse
Was a blessing in disguise
I honor my struggles
I know I survive
It’s so I can thrive
Life is a dream that I’m awake for
