Dear Giant,
I enjoy reading various quotes. Some of them, of course, are more helpful than others. And I like to go beyond only reading the most popular ones. May you be encouraged as you go through the following quotes about what’s holding you back. Better yet, may you take action to move into your destiny.
When you let go of what holds you back, what remains?
Your dreams await you.
Who’s Holding You Back? Look in the Mirror
“Happiness will come when you let go of the hurt that’s holding you back.”
“You will never be truly happy if you continuously hold on to the things that make you sad. Let things go and move on.”
“All day long people say “I just can’t do it.” Why not? The only thing holding you back from doing anything is you. It’s all in your mindset. Not one single person can keep you down or hold you back unless you let them.” – Joseph Andrus
“The only person who is truly holding you back is you. No more excuses. It’s time to change. It’s time to live life at a new level.” – Tony Robbins
“If you want to be great, do it. There’s nothing holding you back. It’s all in your control.” – Pete Carroll
“What’s holding you back in life? Your excuses, your stories, your negative habits, your beliefs, your behaviors, your attitude? All the above?”
“What’s holding you back is the belief that something is holding you back.” – Kaitlyn Walsh
“When you hear fear knocking on the door, most of the time when you answer it, there’s nothing there. It’s just you holding yourself back.” – Brad Goreski
“Excuses hold you back. Action moves you forward.”
“Sometimes the thing that is holding you back is all in your head.”
“It’s not what you are that holds you back. It’s what you think you are not.” – Denis Waitley
“The only thing that’s holding you back is the way you’re thinking.” – Steve Vai
“A heart that holds back on love is a heart that hinders its ability to receive the love it deserves.”
“Stop fighting yourself and accept where you are in life. Let this time in your life motivate you to let go of all the things that are holding you back.” – Robert Tew
You are your best friend and your worst enemy. Sometimes the toughest thing to do is to get out of your own way.
Do Others Hold You Back? What Are You Gonna Do About It?
“The best way to move forward is to let go of the people holding you back.” – Murali Iyengar
“Don’t let other people try and hold you back to make them feel comfortable about doing nothing.”
Better to be alone than to be surrounded by people that drag you down. Ideally, you’ll surround yourself with people that lift you up and that you lift up, too. Healthy, mutually beneficial relationships. That’s something the world needs a lot more of. Will you be an example of that?
What Else Holds You Back?
“Don’t let fear of what may happen hold you back from following your heart.”
“Don’t ever let fear hold you back. Fear was the fuel for every great achievement that ever was.”
“We stay in unhappy situations due to our fears. You will prevail and circumstances will get better once you let go of what’s holding you back.”
“Negative thoughts will hold you back, weigh you down, and drain your energy. Positive thoughts will give you more energy, lift you up, and set you free! Choose wisely!”
“Abandon anything about your life and habits that might be holding you back. Learn to create your own opportunities. Know that there is no finish line.” – Sophia Amoruso
“You are a product of your environment. So choose the environment that will best develop you toward your objective. Analyze your life in terms of its environment. Are the things around you helping you toward success or are they holding you back?” – W. Clement Stone
It could be that the thing that looks the scariest is exactly the right thing for you. Listen to your heart. Calmly and without any distortions. What does your inner voice tell you?
Who and What Are You Holding Back?
“If someone doesn’t fit in your company, you have an obligation to get rid of them because you’re holding them back from excelling elsewhere.” – Barbara Corcoran
Also, perhaps like various times throughout my life, you might be helping someone too much and holding them back from finding their own strength. There is a balance to be found in helping others. Help them too much, and they’ll hardly do anything for themselves. Help them too little, and they might not progress that way either.
Help them in just the right way, and they might surprise you. Pleasantly. When the Goldilocks Zone of something being just right is achieved, that can vastly outweigh all those other times when the bed is too hard or too soft, when the porridge is too hot or too cold, and when something is too much or too little.
May we find the people who help us move forward in life in a healthy, powerful, sustainable way. May the people we can help properly find us. May we free others that we otherwise would have held back from their fuller potential.
Our potential is unlimited. There is always more to learn, and there is always more room to grow. The more I learn, the more I see how much I don’t know. The mountain keeps getting higher the more I climb it.
Conclusion
“People think a soulmate is your perfect fit, and that’s what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that is holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life. A true soulmate is probably the most important person you’ll ever meet because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. … A soulmate’s purpose is to shake you up, tear apart your ego a little bit, show you your obstacles and addictions, break your heart open so new light can get in, make you so desperate and out of control that you have to transform your life.” – Elizabeth Gilbert
“Step out of the history that is holding you back. Step into the new story you are willing to create.” – Oprah Winfrey
“Don’t worry about how many years you’ve been living the same way. If you truly wish to change, then you definitely can.”
“It’s a terrible thing, I think, in life to wait until you’re ready. I have this feeling now that no one is ever ready to do anything. There is almost no such thing as ready. There is only now. And you may as well do it now. Generally speaking, now is as good a time as any.” – Hugh Laurie
“Release the distractions that are holding you back and focus on one thing only. Getting it done.”
“Have you been holding back from a risky, costly course to which you know in your heart God has called you? Hold back no longer. Your God is faithful to you and adequate for you. You will never need more than He can supply, and what He supplies, both materially and spiritually, will always be enough for the present.” – J.I. Packer
“Don’t think about what can happen in a month. Don’t think about what can happen in a year. Just focus on the 24 hours in front of you and do what you can to get closer to where you want to be.” – Eric Thomas
Enough holding back. Discover your power. For perhaps the first time ever. If you need someone else’s permission to step forth as the giant that you are, then here it is. I give you permission. But the only one who needs to give you permission is you. Give yourself permission to show that you are greater than you think, stronger than you know, and more powerful than you realize.
Who knows? You might even be glad that you did.

Hi Asen, thank you for your positive comment! I’m glad I could help.
I have just finished reading your article, and I am preparing to do a keynote speech to some underprivileged women. I hope you don’t mind, but with your permission, I will be using some of it. Thank you.
Norene, I’m glad I could help.
